Daeho is delicious but expensive!!! We attempted to recreate one of our favorite "going out" dishes for a quarter of the price using premium grade short-rib from Costco!"
One of Andrew and my all time favorite dishes, and so easy even my dad (who cannot boil eggs) can make!"

As residency starts to ramp up, I'm finding myself making this super easy (and cheap!) bean sprout salad more and more often. Ingredients
Andrew and I bought 5 pounds of pork shoulder from Costco, so I decided I needed to try some new recipes to help use it up. We’ve always loved ordering this dish at Korean restaurants but also never tried making Korean soups at home before. After finding some pretty complicated recipes on line (making your own seaweed broth, for example) I decided to try and wing it. I was lucky we had a variety of different kimchee leftover from Daeho, which really enhanced the flavors of the soup! Definitely will be making this again (especially since it seems like we have an endless amount of pork shoulder in our fridge.)"
Every year, my family likes to make a big feast full of American and Chinese/Taiwanese dishes for Thanksgiving. Even though Mama Chen insists on having a turkey every year (for tradition sake), this is a crowd favorite alternative to the traditional bird. Although it might look similar to a chicken or turkey, the natural fat in duck meat is unparalleled in taste! Andrew's special recipe, which includes the whole duck glazed in an orange and soy dressing, and flavored with lemon, honey and garlic, has been tested and perfected, and is best served with rice or Ssam wraps!" When I lived in Spain for a month during my gap year, I missed asian foods rice a lot, so I ate paella at least once every couple days (it kind of reminded me of fried rice.) It was by far my favorite dish I tried in Europe, especially in Valencia. Since I've been back in the states I've only had it one or two times, and I never dared try to make it. But tonight it was Andrew's turn to choose the dish for our virtual date night, and this is what he chose. Luckily, it was actually quite easy and besides some burnt pieces of rice! We omitted a lot of the ingredients from the original recipe (like saffron because we are poor students), but it still tasted really delicious!"
My family loves Bonchon (Korean deep fried chicken which is great for the soul but not so great for the heart). With some extra Gochujang in our fridge, Andrew came up with this absolutely delish baked version. It doesn't taste exactly the same but it still makes a great meal with a hot bowl of rice or a spicy snack to go with some cold beer."
