Wonton noodle soup is my ultimate comfort food. My grandma has been making her own wontons for as long as I can remember, and she keeps a frozen bag of handmade wontons on deck at all times. On workdays this year, I often use my lunchtime to see my grandpa, and my grandma always insists to boil me some wontons in chicken soup. I finally asked her for the recipe yesterday, so I could ring in the new year with some wontons of my own. I adapted her recipe with some touches of my own (more shrimp and garlic!) but the taste of grandma's cooking still shines through." For the Wontons (Makes 40-60 wontons)
My grandma, (like all other Asian grandmas), LOVES to cook for her family. When we were little, my dad would take us to her house on weekends; sometimes we would show up unannounced. Of course, she refused to let us leave without our tummies fed, even if she had nothing prepared. This is one of the recipes she would whip up during those surprise visits. The ingredients are all things we have lying at home, noodles, eggs, cooking wine. It takes only 10 minutes to cook, perfect for even the most impatient of grandchildren. It's still one of my go-to weeknight dinners. I like to add some chicken breast or thigh for extra protein, but other than that, I follow my grandma's OG recipe word for word." Materials:
Three eggs Two tbs shaoxin wine Taiwanese yellow noodles (or any other type of noodles) Green onion (garnish) One tbs wine One tbs soysauce 4 tbs water or soup One tbs mirin
My younger sister is allergic to fish, so growing up, we never have seafood at our house. But my grandma made sure I wasn't deprived of seafood and specially cooked fish for me every weekend (making enough so that I could take the leftovers home.) This is my absolute favorite fish recipe... so SO much better than you can get in bento boxes, and incredibly easy too." Materials:
3 stalks green onion 6 pieces of ginger 2 tbs mirin 2 tbs shaoxin 2 tablespoon oyster sauce
